ALEXANDER MACKENZIE - (1844-dead) - Army Engineer, born
Potosi, Grant County, Wisconsin. Graduated at West Point
1864. Brevetted Captain in Civil War for services. Then made
surveys of Mississippi River, Lake Michigan, and other
similar duties. Appointed Brigadier-General, Chief of
Engineers (1904-1905). Retired as Major-General in 1908.
Inaugurated "continuing contracts" in public improvements
and other modern economical methods.
