HERBERT GOUVERNEUR OGDEN - (1846-1906) - Army Engineer.
Appointed aid to U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1883.
During Civil War was assigned to detached service and
engaged in construction of defense of Washington. Saw duty
on North Atlantic blockade and volunteer watch on gunboat
under Commodore Huyll.  Under his direction, thee editions
of U.S. Coast Pilot covering U.S. and Alaska Coasts were
published. Alaska-British Columbia boundary based on his
explorations and maps.
